Mosby's 1999 Family Practice Sourcebook
Published in Paperback by Mosby (September, 1998)
Average review score:

essential addition to 21st century clinician's libraryThis annually updated soft-cover book is an essential addition to any 21st century clinician's library. It presents a review of the evidence on common primary care dilemmas (e.g. hormone replacement therapy -- risks and benefits; cancer screening; management of common diseases). The bibliography at the end of each chapter is excellent for those who want to delve into specifics, while the chapters themselves provide an overview of the science for busy practitioners. As a family practice resident, I'm finding it an excellent resource, and keep it with me in the office.

Mozart Speaks: Views on Music, Musicians and the World
Published in Paperback by Schirmer Books (September, 1995)
Average review score:

Great companion book for musicians and music lovers alikeMozart once wrote of a desire to write a book about music. Sadly, he did not have a chance to do so before he died at the age of 35. Whether or not you have actually played Mozart's work in concert or just love to listen to it, this book is one of the best you will ever come across. It shows the reader Mozart's personal thoughts on just about everything, from music to religion to society to the "other arts". Not only that, but it offers recollections from friends and relatives, including his sister Nannerl and his wife Constanze. The snippets of letters are mingled with fascinating editorial ancedotes about Mozart's life. The man revealed in this book is a far cry from the childish genius in the film "Amadeus", the vision that has too often been the definition of the man in recent years. The only fault I found with the book is that the editor too often reused the same quotes over and over in different sections of the book, and some of the notes on the correspondance were confusing, but other than that this book is probably my favorite Mozart reference.

Nonindifferent Nature : Film and the Structure of Things
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (June, 1988)
Average review score:

Someone, Please REPRINT THIS BOOK!All I can say is that if you're serious about film, you're serious about Eisenstein, and in that case, you you should have access to this volume of his theories. Here we get many more diverse sources to Eisenstein's thoughts, as Martin Lefebvre wrote in his extended study for Screen 41.4, one of which is classical rhetoric and ideas of religious ecstasy. Revisiting Eisenstein may now be more important than ever w/ the various newcomers to "filmmaking" in the non-stop emergence of new forms and formats for motion pictures and with them new possibilities to explore and experiment with narration.

Average review score:

Informative and delightful look at Rockwell's late SEP work. With large, full page, full color reproductions of all the Saturday Evening Post covers done by Norman Rockwell in his later tears with the Post, this book is a must have for any Rockwell fan. Like the two other books in this set (Early Years and Middle Years) each illustration is accompanied by a page of background on the particular cover. The Stoltz brothers make these essays not only informative, with thorough details about the models, inspirations for the picture and all relevant details regarding the painting, but also quite humorous and entertaining.
This book and the art it displays crosses all generational lines and will satisfy the tastes of art lovers, history buffs and everyone in between.

A GREAT & TOUCHING TRIBUTE TO THE MAN WHO TOUCHED OUR LIVES!This book has it all. Stories from fans, DeadHeads, personal friends, associates, etc. Touching anecdotes. Humor. Love. Peace. And of course...THE MUSIC! No matter what your story is or how you "got on the bus" you deserve to have the oppurtunity to read this book. I promise you, whatever your connection to the Dead is, there is a story in here expressing your feelings. AMAZING. Please buy it, it is well worth it. All DeadHeads need to read this book (although I feel even someone who didn't even like the Dead would find this book equally amazing). I cannot say enough good things about this book. When I got through with my copy, I gave it to a friend because I was so touched I had to do something generous. Keep the "Unbroke Chain" alive my friends. Peace!
